Let boys=b

girls=g

Using simultaneous equations:

(1) g+b=24

(2) 2b=g

Substituting (2) into (1).

2b + b = 24

3b=24

b=8

Solving for girls:

g + b = 24

g + 8=24

g=24-8

girls = 16
