    Irst lets represent

    x as first number and x+1 as ne t consecutive number

    x+x+1=89

    2x=88

    x=44

    therefore the consecutive numbers are 44 and 45

    Let the first number be x

    the second number is (x + 1)

    according to the condition,

    x + (x+1) = 89

    or, 2x+1=89

    or, 2x=89-1

    or, 2x=88

    or, x=88/2

    or, x = 44

    therefore,

    first number = 44

    second number = 45
