To determine a student's grade, a teacher throws out the lowest grade obtained on 5 tests, averages the remaining grades, and round up to the nearest integer. if betty scored 75, 90, 88, 72, and 86 on her tests, what grade will she receive?

    In order to determine the grade that Betty will receive, first, rank her test scores from highest to lowest then eliminate the lowest score she got. The ranking shows her test scores to be: 90, 88, 86, 75, 72. We then eliminate 72 and take the average of the 4 remaining test scores. After doing so, we obtain an average equal to 84.75. Rounding it up to the nearest integer or whole number, we get that Betty's grade will be 85.
