    Find and compare the unit rates:

    Robert: 600 ft / 20 sec = 30 ft/sec

    Larry: 300 ft / 12 sec = 25 ft/sec

    It's obvious that Robert's ride is faster than Larry's.

    To work this out use the equation;

    Speed = distance / time

    First lets work out the speed of Robert's car.

    600 / 20 = 30

    (Robert's car travels 30feet per second)

    Next lets do the same for Larry's motorcycle.

    300 / 12 = 25

    (Larry's motorcycle travels 25feet per second)

    We now see the Robert's car is faster by 5feet per second
