Solution:

Turn into improper fractions:

1 1/6 = (6 x 1) + 1 = 7/6

1 1/8 = (8 x 1) + 1 = 9/8

Find Common Denominators:

A common denominator is 24

7/6 = 28/24

9/8 = 27/24

Now add:

28/24 + 27/24 = 55/24

Now Simplify:

24 x 2 = 48 = 2

55 - 48 = 7 left over

Final Fraction:

2 7/24
