If a plane can travel 500 miles per hour with the wind and 420 miles per hour against the? wind, find the speed of the wind and the speed of the plane in still air.

    plane velocity (with wind) = 500 mph

    plane velocity (against wind) = 420 mph

    velocity difference divided by 2 = 40

    plane velocity = 500 - 40 = 460 mph
