    the slope of the line we want to find is 1/2.

    Y = x + 5 ... the slope here is 1. A perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope. So the negative reciprocal of 1 (or 1/1) can be found by flipping the slope and changing the sign ... so basically, ur perpendicular line will have a slope of - 1
