    Eight

    Step-by-step explanation:

    We have two conditions:

    (1) C + D = 12

    (2) 2C + 3D = 32 Subtract D from each side of Equation (1)

    C = 12 - D Multiply both sides by 5

    2 (12 - D) + 3D = 32 Remove parentheses

    24 - 2D + 3D = 32 Combine like terms

    24 + D = 32 Subtract D from each side

    D = 8

    Philip bought eight DVDs.
