Statistics canada reports that 19.9% of canadians aged 12 and older smoke either daily or occasionally. if you take an srs of 1500 canadians aged 12 and over, what is the approximate distribution of the number in your sample who smoke either daily or occasionally?

    Since there are 1500 people in your random sample, and the statistics show that 19.9% of people in that bracket smoke, convert your decimal to a percent (divide by 100, so you would get 0.199) and multiply that by the number in your sample, 1500. This gives you 298.5. You cannot have a fraction of a person, so round up to 299 people.
