Well, there are 60 children. And 3 boys for every 1 girl.

    3:1

    3 + 1 = 4

    60/4 = 15

    15 x 1 = 15

There were 15 girls in the class and 45 boys.

    There are 15 girls. 15 times 3 is 45 and 45 plus 15 equals 60
