This is the concept of arithmetic, given that in a class, 46% of the population are women and the total number of women is 1717 women. The total number of students in the class will be given by:

(percentage of students in class) / (percentage of women) * (number of women)

given that the percentage of women has been calculated from total number of students, then the total number of students will be represented by 100%

therefore, the number of students will be:

    100/46*1717

    =3,732.6

since the actual number of people can't be expressed as percentage, then we shall round off our answer and our total will be:

    3733 students.
