    1 ton = 2,000 pounds

    1.5 tons = 3,000 pounds

After reducing the weight by 300 pounds,

    the car now weighs

    (3,000 pounds) - (300 pounds) = 2,700 pounds.

    (that's 2,700/2,000 = 1.35 tons)
