Ariel has a plastic ice cream cone in her food playset. The ice cream cone is a half-sphere sitting on top of a cone. What is the approximate volume of the toy ice cream cone? Use 3.14 for ππ.

    To find the total volume of the toy ice cream, simply add the individual volumes of the cone and the half sphere. The volume of the cone is 1/3*πr²h. On the other hand, the volume of a sphere is 4/3*πr³. But since only half of the sphere was used, that would be 2/3*πr³. Thus, the total volume of the toy ice cream is:

    V = 1/3*πr²h + 2/3*πr³, where

    h is the height of the cone

    r is the radius of the cone and the sphere. Since the sphere fits perfectly on top of the cone, they would have identical diameters. Having the same value for r, we can further simplify the equation by factoring

    V = 1/3*πr² (h + 2r)

    V = 1.05r² (h+2r)
