If one third of the liquid contents of a can evaporates on the first day and three fourths of the remainder evaporates on the second day, the fractional part of the original contents remaining at the close of the second day is

    The remainder on the first day : 1 - 1/3 = 2/3

    the amount which evaporates on the seconday : 2/3 * 3/4 = 1/2

    the remains at the close of the second day : 2/3 - 1/2 = 1/6
