Carol jogged 1 3/4 miles on 5 days last week. She jogged 2 1/4 miles on 4days this week. Was her total distance greater last week or this week? How much greater? Explain

    Given that Carol ran a total 1 3/4 miles for 5 days last week, the total distance covered was:

    Total distance = (distance per day) * (total number of days)

    =1 3/4*5

    =7/4*5

    =35/4

    =8 3/4 miles

    Total distance ran this week is:

    Total distance = (2 1/4*4)

    =9/4x4

    =9 miles

    therefore we conclude that the distance covered this week was greater than the distance covered last week.

    b] this distance was greater by:

    difference = (distance covered this week) - (distance covered last week)

    =9-35/4

    = (36-35) / 4
