To calculate the mean weights of the potatoes, the weights are all added and divided by the number of potatoes.

    The sum of all the potatoes - 5 + 8 + 9 + 11 + 7 + 7 + 8 + 9 + 12 + 7 = 83

the number of potatoes - 10

we have to divide the sum of weights by 10

    Mean weight = 83/10 = 8.3

Rounded off to the nearest ounce - 8 ounces
