The speed of a baseball pitcher's fastball is 92.4 miles per hour. His fastball is 10% faster than his curveball, and his curveball is 5% faster than his change - up.

Part A: how fast is the pitcher's curveball? The choices are A: 84 miles per hour B: 86 miles per hour C: 88 miles per hour D: 90 miles per hour

Part B: how fast is the pitcher's change-up? The choices are A: 76 miles per hour B: 78 miles per hour C: 80 miles per hour D: 82 miles per hour

    Part A:

    92.4*0.10

    = 9.24

    92.4-9.24

    = 83.16

    Part B:

    83.16*0.05

    = 4.158

    83.16-4.158

    = 79.002

    The trick to percentages is to put a decimal behind the percent sign and multiply.

    So 10% of 10 would be. 10 times 10, or 1.

    5% of 100 would be. 05 times 100, or 5.
