    There's 6 numbers so, when you calculate the MAD, you end up with 4.1 with the 1 repeating. You round it and you get 4.10

    First find the arithmetic average, which is the "mean".

    m = (17+8+5+12+20+12) / 6

    m=74/6=37/3

    Now you sum up the differences between each value and the mean ...

    mad = (4 2/3+4 1/3+7 1/3+1/3+7 2/3+1/3)

    mad=24 2/3

    mad=24.7 (to nearest tenth)
