Divide - 1 on both sides of the first equation
y = - 4x - 1
simplify the second equation
2y + 4x = 2
plug in the first equation in to the second
2 (-4x - 1) + 4x = 2
-8x - 2 + 4x = 2
-4x - 2 = 2
-4x = 4
x = - 1
Plug that in to the first equation
y = - 4 (-1) - 1
y = 3
The solution to the system of equations is (-1,3)
