P=2L+2W
L=Length
W=Width
P=Perimeter=16
So you have:
16=2*5+2w
Multiply 2 and 5 and get:
16=10+2w
Subtract 10 from both sides and get:
6=2w
Divide by 2 and get:
3=W
The width is 3.
