    Don't let the fraction confuse you.

    3y + 2/4 = 7

    You could multiply each side by 4 to get rid of the fraction:

    12y + 2 = 28

    Subtract 2 from each side:

    12y = 26

    Divide each side by 12:

    y = 26/12 or 13/6 or 2 and 1/6
