Gretchen and henrik are meeting at a park. gretchen lives 2.4 miles away from the park and bikes at a constant rate of 12 miles per hour. henrik lives 8.4 miles away from the park and he drives at a constant rate of 36 miles. per hour. if they both head out at the same time, who will arrive first and by how many minutes?

    60 minutes per hour / 12 miles per hour = 5 minutes per mile

    2.4 miles * 5 = 12 minutes for Gretchen

    60 / 36 = 1.67 minutes per mile

    8.4 * 1.67 = 14 minutes for Henrik

    Gretchen arrives first by 2 minutes
