What is the slope of a line that is perpendicular to the line y = 8x + 5?

    Perpendicular slopes are oposite inverse, ie. the slopes of perpendicular lines multiply to get - 1

    8 times - 1/8=-8/8=-1

    the slope is - 1/8

    Just cancel 8 from both side and then you will have - 1/8
