    let w = the width of the rectangle

    then, (2w - 2) = the length of the rectangle [Its length is 2 ft less than twice its width]

    Area = w (2w - 2) = 2w² - 2w = 264

    w² - w - 132 = 0

    (w - 12) (w + 11) = 0

    w = - 11 [extraneous]

    or

    w = 12 ft

    width = 12 ft, length = 22 ft
