A bottle filled with juice weighs 8 pounds. One morning George drank 2/3 of the juice in the filled bottle. The bottle and the remaining juice weighed 3 pounds. What is the weight of the empty bottle, in pounds?

    2/3 of 8 = 2/3 * 8 = 16/3 = 5 1/3 ... so he drank 5 1/3 ... the remaining juice is 1/3 of 8 ... = 8/3 = 2 2/3

    remaining juice + bottle = 3 lbs

    8/3 + bottle = 3

    3 - 8/3 = bottle

    9/3 - 8/3 = bottle

    1/3 = bottle ... so 1/3 of a lb is the weight of the bottle.
