There are 27 students in Jenna's class. Jenna brought in 12 cupcakes. Which equation can be used to find the number of cupcakes the class still needs (n) so that everyone will get one?

    Wouldn't it be 12+n=27? Or 27-n=12?

    Of the 27 students in class, only 12 have cupcakes, so to determine the amount of students who still need cupcakes, we subtract the number of those who have them, so the equation should look like

    27 - 12 = n

    n = 15
