Joe will rent a car for the weekend. He can choose one of two plans. The first plan has an initial fee of $41.98 and costs an additional $0.19 per mile driven. The second plan has an initial fee of $53.98 and costs an additional $0.15 per mile driven. How many miles would Joe need to drive for the two plans to cost the same?

    You can set up expressions for each. (x = the amount of miles driven)

    First plan: cost = 41.98 +.19x

    Second plan: cost = 53.98 +.15x

    Then you set them equal to eachother

    41.98 +.19x = 53.98 +.15x

    .04x = 12

    x = 300

    Joe would need to travel 300 miles for them to cost the same
