A cylinder has a radius of 3 inches and a height of 4 3/4 inches. A sphere has a radius of 3 inches. What is the difference between the volumes, to thr nearest tenth of a cubic inch; of the cylinder and the sphere?

    The volume of a cylinder is calculated by the product of π, the square of the radius and the height. While, for the sphere it is calculated from the expression V = 4πr^3 / 3. We calculate as follows:

    V (cylinder) = πr^2h = π (3^2) (4 3/4) = 134.30 in^3

    V (sphere) = 4πr^3 / 3 = 4π (3) ^3 / 3 = 113.10 in^3

    V (cylinder) - V (sphere) = 21.2 in^3
