The required linear function is, Gallon Sold = 30578 - 19080 * Price per gallon

    Step-by-step explanation:

For $1.35 per gallon the sale is 4820 gallon and for $1.40 per gallon the sale is 3866

    or

every increase of $0.05 per gallon 954 gallon is reduced.

Say, the linear function is Ax + B = Gallon Sold

where x is price per gallon.

    So, 1.35A + B = 4820 ... 1

    and 1.40A + B = 3866 ... 2

    Now substract (1) from (2)

    we get, 0.05A = - 954

    or A = - 19080

    and value of B = 30578. So

The required linear function is, Gallon Sold = 30578 - 19080 * Price per gallon.
