    You set up the equations first. R = red rose, w = white rose

    r=2w

    8r+10w=8,554

    You substitute r with 2w in the second equation and begin to evaluate. You should get w=329. Since w=329, you substitute this into the first equation, thus r = 2 (329) = 658. You add both together to figure out the total amount sold, 658+329=987.

    The florist sold 329 white roses, and 658 red roses.

    329 + 658 = 987 roses.

    The florist sold a total of 987 roses.
