    5e+3=e+12

    solving:

    3+5e=12+e

    3+5e+-1e=12+e+-1e

    5e+-1e=4e+3+4e=12+e+-1e

    e=-1e=0

    3+4e=12+0

    3+4e=12

    3+-3+4e=12+-3

    0+4e=12+-3

    4e=12+-3

    12+-3=9

    4e=9

    divide each side by (4)

    e=2.25
