There are 36 students in class out of which 18 are girl and 18 are boys. Two students are to selected as monitor such that one is girl and other is boy.

It means we have to select 1 girl from 18 girls and 1 boy from 18 boy for two positions of monitor.

Number of ways selecting 1 girl from 18 is = 18

Number of ways of selecting 1 boy from 18 = 18

So Number of ways of selecting 1 girl and 1 boy for two position of monitor = 18*18

    = 324

The number of ways two students can be chosen as monitors, one from the girls and another from the boys, from a class of 36 if there are 18 girls and 18 boys in the class is 324
