    Let x be the number

    x + x - 13 = 61

    2x - 13 = 61

    2x = 61 + 13

    2x = 74

    2x/2 = 74/2

    x = 37

    I would use the inverse operation.

    61 divided by 2 plus 13 equals 43.5
