A dairy needs 360 gallons of milk containing 4% butterfat. How many gallons each of milk containing 5% butterfat and milk containing 2% butterfat must be used to obtain the desired

    If the amount of 5% is x, the amount of 2% is 360-x

    .05x +.02 (360 - x) =.04 x 360

    .05x + 7.2 -.02x = 14.4

    .03x = 7.2

    x = 240

    240 gallons of 5%

    120 gallons of 2%
