    Let's represent the bigger number by x and the smaller number is x-6

    x+x-6=48 x-6=27-6=21

    2x-6=48 21+27=48

    2x-6+6=48+6 the two numbers are 21 and 27

    2x=54

    2x/2=54/2

    x=27
