Linear equations clark wants to figure how many pens to order for the office. There are 36 workers, and he needs to order one pen for each worker. He knows that for every three people who prefer red there are nine who prefer blue How many blue pens should he order?

    So the ratio 3:9 can be added together to make twelve. Add the number set together 3 times to get 36. Now you have 3+9 3+9 3+9. 3=blue so you will need nine blue pens and 27 red pens.
