    from the laws of indicies,

    Therefore,

    5ˣ (x - 1) = 5⁰,

    considering the equation now, 5 is common to both the left and right hand of the equation, we divide by 5, we now have

    x (x - 1) = 0

    Now open the bracket, we now have

    x² - x = 0

    factorise

    x (x - 1) = 0

    Therefore

    x = 0 or x = 1
