Write the equation of the line perpendicular to 3x + y = - 8 that passes through (-3,1). Write your answer in slope-intercept form. Show your work.

    Y = - 3x-8, m=-3

    m•m1 = - 1

    -3•m1 = - 1

    m1 = 1/3

    from y-y1 = m (x-x1)

    y-1 = 1/3 (x+3)

    y-1 = 1/3x + 1

    y = 1/3x + 2
