The answer to your problem is: 11

Step-by-step explanation: To solve this problem we need to draw a Venn diagram

    Data

    Population 32 fifth graders

    17 students liked carrots

    20 students liked green beans

How many said they liked both vegetables

As the population that does not like neither carrots nor green beans, then the population under research is : 32 - 6 = 26

Then 26 is the combination of graders that like only carrots, only beans or both.

And the total of carrots must be 17, the total of beans must be 20, then we combine this numbers in order to get 26

    For example:

    carrots green beans both total

    15 18 2 35 wrong

    10 13 7 30 wrong

    8 11 9 28 wrong

    7 10 10 27 wrong

    6 9 11 26 right
