4x+2 (x-3) = 8x+12

    4x + 2x - 6 = 8x + 12

    Distributive property

    6x - 6 = 8x + 12

    Combine like terms

    (6x - 6x) - 6 = (8x - 6x) + 12

    -6 = 2x + 12

    Subtract

    -6 - 12 = 2x (12 - 12)

    -12 = 2x

    Subtract again

    -12/2 = 2x/2

    Divide

    -6 = x
