    4x+3y = - 5 ... (i)

    -x+3y = - 10 ... (ii)

    Since ther is 3y in both equations, we can eliminate it by subtracting.

    Equation (i) Minus Equation (ii)

    4x + 3y - (-x + 3y) = - 5 - - 10

    4x + 3y + x - 3y = - 5 + 10

    5x = 5

    x = 5/5

    x = 1.

    Substituting x = 1, into (i)

    4x+3y=-5

    4 (1) + 3y = - 5.

    4 + 3y = - 5

    3y = - 5 - 4

    3y = - 9

    y = - 9/3

    y = - 3.

    Therefore x = 1, y = - 3.
