    30.00 (0.20) = 6.00

    $6.00 is the discount but, if you wanted to know how much the shirt costs after the discount you subtract $6.00 from $30.00

    $30.00-$6.00 = $24.00

    The shirt would then cost $24 because 30*0.2 is 6 meaning $6 is taken off the shirt.
