    -2 | 8-x| - 6 = - 12 ... add 6 to both sides

    -2 |8-x| = - 12 + 6

    -2 |8-x| = - 6 ... divide both sides by - 2

    |8-x| = - 6/-2

    |8-x| = 3

    8 - x = - 3 - (8 - x) = - 3

    -x = - 3-8 - 8 + x = - 3

    -x = - 11 x = - 3 + 8

    x = 11 x = 5

    not correct ... sign error
