Answer: The most useful statistic for measuring variation is Standard deviation.

Standard deviation is a better measure of variation than the range because standard takes into account all the observation's of the data, while the range just concentrates on the minimum and maximum observation of the data. Also standard deviation is used for further statistical work while the range is not used.

Definition of Standard deviation:The Standard Deviation is a measure of how spread out numbers are. It is square root of the average of the squared differences from the Mean.
