the answer should be
2/4 + (-8/4) = - 1.5

Well adding a negative to a positive is basically subtraction. 2/4+-8/4 would be - 6/4.
This is because 2 isn’t enough to get rid of - 8, so we end up with - 6.
Oh and - 6/4 can be simplified to - 3/2.
