At each mile marker for the first five miles of a marathon, Ellie was 18 seconds, 9 seconds, 14 seconds, 6 seconds, and 3 seconds ahead of her goal pace. What was her mean time ahead of her goal pace?

    The mean is the average.

    Let A = mean

    A = (18 + 14 + 9 + 6 + 3) / 5

    A = 50/5

    A = 10

    Ellie's mean time is 10 seconds.
