1/2 foot is 6 inches.

Brenda has to divide that 6 inches up into slices that are 2/3 inch thick.

If she uses a saw that has no thickness and makes no sawdust, she can get

(6) : (2/3) = (6) · (3/2) = (18 / 2) = 9 slices out of the 6-inch post.
