For a singing contest in which 42000 votes were cast, the winner received 3/5 of the vote. How many votes did the winner not receive?

    You have to divide 42000 by 5 which is 8400 then you multiply that by 3 which is 25200 lastly you subtract 25200 from 42000 and get 16800.

    the winner didn't receive 16800 of the votes
