Solve this problem using estimation.

Ramona is ordering carpet for a room that is 19.5 feet by 41.6 feet. The carpet is $9.50 per square foot. About how much can Ramona expect to pay for the carpet she is ordering?

    For Ramona to know how much she expects to pay for the carpet she is ordering, she first needs to know how many square foot the the room has.

    In getting the area of the room, you multiply one side with the other,

    in equation,

    19.5 ft x 41.6 ft = 811.2 sq ft.

    Then if the carpet costs $9.50 per sq ft, you simply multiply it the area of the room

    in equation,

    $9.50 / sq ft. x 811.2 sq ft, cancelling out the unit of sq ft

    the answer would be $7,706.4
