A clothing store sold 4 times as many sweaters as coats. The difference in the sales was 300. How many of each were sold?

    Sweater = 400

    coats = 100

    difference = 300

    in an equation it would be

    4x-x=300

    so

    3x=300

    x=100

    sweaters = 4x = 400

    coats = x = 100
